Doctors
The theme thus far for the week is: doctors.
On Monday morning Kyle saw the dentist again. Long story short, he'd been having no trouble whatsoever with his teeth, but on exam, it was determined that two fillings needed to be replaced with crowns. Both have subsequently abscessed and he is now on root canal #2. Mind you, neither was able to be completed in just one visit. Poor guy. This has been going on for months now and he has been in a lot of pain -- especially when he flies.
On Monday afternoon Kyle made an appointment with a doctor at The Sleep Disorders Center of Central Texas. We saw an article in the news recently that prompted the appointment. It related snoring induced fatigue to the same symptoms as depression! There's no doubt that Kyle snores, but I don't think either one of us stopped to think about that potentially being the reason he's been feeling so crappy. Here's to hoping he gets a good night's sleep out of this ... and that I can ditch my earplugs someday soon! ;)
On Monday night we had a Meet the Partner's night at the hospital. All seven doctors from my OB/GYN's practice were there to introduce themselves and talk about the call schedule. If Mallory makes her appearance in the middle of the night, I'm happy to say that I'd be comfortable with -- or even pleased to have -- any of the doctors deliver her. They really are a fantastic group of women.
On Tuesday night we had a Meet the Doctor's night at our pediatrician's office. We met three of the seven doctors and had a little tour of the facility. I'm so happy with our choice in doctors. During a Q & A session a stereotypical central Austin hippie couple started provoking her about the safety of vaccines. Dr. Brown was very diplomatic, yet passionate and basically went off on them, Dr. Sears and some LA doctor to the stars (who's name escapes me). The facts she has at her fingertips (vs. popular opinion in the media) is impressive. Needless to say, we have no reservations about vaccinating our baby!
Another invaluable tidbit came from Dr. Mani. Apparently The American Academy of Pediatrics has published books not only on the "normal" physical and intellectual development of babies & toddlers, but also on teenagers. We are SO going to look into it, and read up on what's happening in The Boy's brain! Much to his chagrin ;)
