Egg Hunt

More neighborhood fun! Our cul-de-sac shut down the street again and had an egg hunt for the kiddos on Saturday morning, complete with a buffet of brunch food, coffee, and mimosas. Each child was to find 8 candy filled eggs and 1 golden egg with their name on it. Unfortunately The Boy's golden egg (and our $5 in it) went missing. We're pretty sure one of the little kids picked it up without realizing. Ah well. At Drew's age, an egg hunt shouldn't be a big deal to begin with. I was kind of shocked at his enthusiasm over the festivities. It's not like he believes in the Easter Bunny. I think the kid just wanted more candy, despite the fact that we still have a giant bowl of leftovers from Halloween. His waffling between being a kid and being "too old" for things is hard to predict :)

The gathering lasted well into the afternoon. Adults switched from mimosas to beers, and the kids bopped in and out of practically everyone's house at one point or another, running around all day like a pack of wild banshees. Kyle and I left to run some errands, while one of the neighbors kept an eye on Drew. We had said neighbors over for burgers after things wound down. Drew and their son are the same age/best buds, and were glued to Wii (so much so that they missed dessert) allowing us to socialize and watch basketball on the patio until fairly late in the evening (not that I was actually watching). All in all it was a great Saturday.

Now, because The Boy was all geared up over the egg hunt, Kyle made a run to the store at the 11th hour and got him a chocolate rabbit and a bag of candy to hide around the house. By the time we woke up on Sunday morning, Drew had already found all the candy, piled it up on the coffee table and was back upstairs in the game room playing Call of Duty 3, which I swear he's addicted to (if you see us on an episode of Intervention, don't be surprised). We went to church and had lunch at Katz's deli afterwards, but the rest of Easter day was kind of a let down. It got gray and downright chilly out. Everyone was spending time with their families, and in comparison to all the fun on Saturday, The Boy was bored, hopped up on chocolate and thus pesky ALL day. Even Pirates of the Caribbean at World's End didn't help much, because he'd already seen it (and we hadn't). And if you've ever tried to watch a movie with this kid, you'd know that he will not stop talking about what's about to happen next, or what his favorite part is, or what was sooo funny about the part that just happened. OMG - serenity now! Suffice it to say, I was NOT sad to see bedtime roll around ;)
