All Hallow's Eve

We carved pumpkins last night, and roasted the seeds. The Boy, the neighbor kid, and Kyle went trick or treating. Mom and I stayed behind to man the candy bowl. There we literally 100's of kids on our street last night. We mostly stood outside and watched the parade of kids and parents go by on the sidewalk across the street. (For whatever reason, our neighborhood only has sidewalks on one side). I attest the low traffic at our front door to this theory: by the time kids walked all the way down one side of the street they were either too pooped or it was too late to come back up the other, our sidewalk-less side. Thus we have three leftover bags of candy.

When things began to wind down, we convened in the cul-de-sac with our neighbors. The lady and her husband who threw the big party last weekend were out with a basket of beers (vs. candy) for the parents. They are such a crack up! While we were out gabbing, some older kids came by. The neighbor kid's mom had left a bowl of candy out on their door step. Unbeknownst to us at the time, the neighbor kid had also stashed his bag of hard-earned treats on the porch. The crappy teenagers looted his entire bag, while we were standing not 50 ft. away. Poor guy. He was more shocked than upset. His little sister, her friend, and The Boy were quick to share their candy with him. And I was more than happy to go get reinforcements from our leftovers. So, his variety might not be that great, but his quantity was definitely replenished.

We also learned that there's been a rash of window shootings in our neighborhood, including the rear windshield of the Hummer belonging to one of our cul-de-sac friends. Kids are apparently using BB guns to do the deed. I'm now worried for my mom's brand new Honda. It's perpetually parked in the street.
