Spring Break

This year for spring break we spent four nights (on hotel points) in lovely Corpus Christi. Why CC? Because we couldn't get airmiles and hotel points to match up anywhere nice, and because the drive was manageable with the baby. No offense to anyone from CC ... but man, what a dump. If we'd had any idea what it was like, we wouldn't have gone there. Mind you, Mustang island had a decent beach, and we certainly enjoyed the time we spent there - but we found a surprising amount of trash too. And really, for a state park you'd think those entrance fees would pay for a tractor (to comb the beach). The trip left me wondering, if tourism isn't one of Corpus Cristi's main industries (if it is, they fooled me), then what is?

It wasn't all bad of course. Highlights included going to the aquarium. Not because the aquarium itself was anything to write home about, but because Mallory was wildly clapping her hands to sign "more" every time the dolphins swam past our end of the tank. Mallory also learned how to drink out of a straw! She also sampled sand and seaweed. Both were apparently tasty. She did not like putting her toes in the cold ocean, however. And though she was clearly plotting how to catch a sand piper, the birds were on to her.
